ABOUT BAKUNAWA YOUNG CINEMA
Bakunawa Festival is a the first fantastic and genre film festival based in The Philippines presented by Negros Museum and E Unlimited. Formerly called 'Bakunawa Young Cinema], by young we mean fresh, new, creative, innovative films. Bakunawa is a mythical dragon-like creature in Philippine mythology that devoured moons. Because we're a genre fest, we twist Because we are a genre-bending film fest, we want to flip the Bakunawa's role and we want it to instead symbolize the creative monsters inside us.
We are currently implementing our 8th edition 2021-2022 via online and our Bakunawa VOD Channel. The eyeball is the key!

Bakunawa is also an annual film camp and series of film workshops for young filmmakers that culminates into a film festival - mostly of genre films (horror, sci-fi, fantasy, folk, noir, folk, etc). The films that the film camp participants produce are the ones that compete for the top prize.
The basic idea of Bakunawa is new visions, new voices. When we say young, we don't necessarily mean age. But we highly support young promising filmmakers who either have no access to expensive workshops and may not have the name/recognition to be screened in a film fest. Since our third edition, it has included a section that screens local and international selected films for educational purposes. Most of the Bakunawa Film Labs are done as outrecah programs/workshops and are hosted by different cities in the Philippines.
